Meditation? Me?
"Who me? I'm ADD! I can't meditate!"
All spiritual practices I've researched include and encourage daily meditation.
What? Why? How? How it is possible in our ADD, technological and accelerating world?
What is meditation?
Simply put, I feel that mediation is the stilling of the ego-mind. It's often called the space between thoughts. Our ego-mind is described as the 'monkey-mind' because it chatters incessantly, drowns out intuition and throws shit at passers-by. Our ego-mind is that non-stop self-talk. It's firmly rooted in 3-D unreality. Is it good for anything? Not much of value. The monkey-mind is a poor decision-making tool. Therefore it doesn't materially contribute to our success, happiness, health or well-being. It replays our "stories" continually. It perpetuates our mis-beliefs, dis-beliefs, false-beliefs, judgments, perceptions and prejudices.
Why is meditation necessary?
So we can quiet our monkey-mind, redirect it, and allow for intuition to be heard. Intuition is a far more functional decision-making tool. Intuition stretches beyond 3-D unreality. I define intuition as a multi-dimensional, 1-way communication method. 1) It involves data-mining the vast amounts of information stored in our subconscious mind. 2) It allows tuning into the human species-field (the repository of all human knowledge - a virtual internet). 3) It allows tuning into The Universe (God, Nature, Allah, Great Spirit, Yahweh, etc).
How can I meditate?
There are numerous methods from the old tried and true such as sitting comfortably and quietly, deep, rhythmic breathing, then focusing one's attention on a single thought/input/object such as a candle, spot on the wall, visualization, sound, breath, nose hair movement, heartbeat etc. When the monkey-mind races random thoughts, merely say "thank you for sharing, now move on". There are numerous excellent resources for mediation processes.
This doesn't work for me!
I use technology - specifically brain-entrainment mp3s. Some really work well! I can get comfortable, put on headphones and merely focus intently on the sounds. It often takes the first 15 minutes to get quiet, then 15 minutes of real meditation. You'll likely find that all mediation requires practice, and gets easier over time.
The benefits are AMAZING! At the first level, stress is dramatically reduced which translates into greatly improved physical, emotional and intellectual health. Insights are easily gained, spiritual growth is streamlined, questions are clearly answered. If you have a question, you can write it down just prior to mediation and then focus on it at the beginning of the session.
Please: Meditate Every Day!
